The M&M World in Orlando is a must see. A visual and culinary treat for all ages.

I often tell people I am not fond of candy but I don’t consider M&M’s to be candy. I consider M&M’s to be one of the essential food groups. M&M World at Orlando’s Florida Mall is one of three M&M World stores, the other two being at Las Vegas and New York.

We were in Orlando to visit Universal Studios and had some time for a little shopping the evening before our scheduled visit to the park. While driving around we passed by a brightly colored sign that said M&M World at The Florida Mall. My stomach growled and my mouth began to water. So off we went to do the mall crawl.

My first glance of the store gave me a little tickle in my tummy and I felt like a kid again. The glow of neon radiated from the interior of the store while big giant plastic M&M’s perched and lounged around the entrance. I could hear them hawking their wares in my head.

Inside the store the ceiling changed colors from fuchsia to magenta to brilliant blue and back to fuchsia. Dozens of clear acrylic tubes full of all colors and types of M&M’s ran the length of the ceiling and continued down the wall where hungry shoppers were filling their little bags full of tasty treasures. I thought I had landed in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and expected little M&M colored Oompa Loompas to come dancing out from behind a curtain.

The acrylic feeder tubes end at a dispenser mechanism where, for 12.99 a pound, you can mix and match M&M’s of all sorts and colors. You won't see these colors or flavors at your local grocery store. I thought I was going to have an anxiety attack as I wandered up and down the line of tubes filling my bag with pecan centered M&M’s and peanut butter centered M&M’s and dark chocolate M&M’s and, of course, I couldn’t leave out the classic regular red M&M’s which had always been my favorite.

With bag in hand filled with about two pounds of M&M’s my attention finally turned to the rest of what the store had to offer. The M&M merchandise was a bit pricey but so many fun things lined the shelves and racks. The store had everything from men’s ties and belts to women’s purses made from recycled wrappers. There were toys and baubles and knick-knacks and patty-wacks. A real visual treat everywhere you looked. There was even a race car out on the floor with the M&M logo plastered all over it.

Did you know you can order customized M&M's for your special event?

Skip lunch and head over to the M&M World store at The Florida Mall in Orlando located at 8001 S. Orange Blossom Trail Unit #1132 Orlando, FL 32808. Who ever said chocolate wasn't a food group?!
