Paramount Pictures' Hatari! thundered into movie theaters in 1962. Directed by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne, Hardy Kruger, Elsa Martinelli, Red Buttons, Gerard Blain and Bruce Cabot, Hatari! features the Duke as Sean Mercer, a big game roper who traverses the African landscape with his crew capturing wild animals for zoos. Made for $6 million, Hatari! debuted on June 19, 1962, earning a single Academy Award nomination for Best Color Cinematography (Russell Harlan).

A complete set of eight lobby cards (11x14-inches) in fine/very fine condition fetched a top bid of $79 at auction. Moviegoers in 1962 might have glimpsed these wonderful cards displayed in theater lobbies.

A pair of movie door panels (20x60-inches) in fine- condition brought $56 at auction. Clark Gable was originally set to star with John Wayne, but Paramount couldn't meet Gable's demands of top billing, a $1 million salary and 10% of the gross profits. That's steep by 1960 standards, the year Gable and Paramount were in negotiation.

A window card (14x22-inches) in fine/very fine condition sold at auction for $26. Elsa Martinelli's sexy safari suit caused quite a stir at the time. It had been purchased by director Howard Hawks in a New York City department store.
