Betty Grable (1916-1973) is perhaps best remembered today as the number one American pinup girl from World War II. But Grable's movie career pre-dates the war, with the actress singing and dancing in various Hollywood musicals before she had reached the age of 14. Her earliest film efforts as a chorus girl include Happy Days (1929), Let's Go Places (1930) and Kiki (1931). Born Elizabeth Ruth Grable in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 18, 1916, Betty Grable died of lung cancer at age 56 on July 2, 1973. Grable's two husbands were trumpeter/big band leader Harry James and actor Jackie Coogan.
