John Cleese is a British actor most commonly attributed to the once notorious comedy group known as Monty Python, alongside other equally integral members of the group namely Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, all of whom gave rise to the equally notorious comedy sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus, first aired in 1969 by BBC. After the unfortunate dissolution of the Monty Python, he had been observed still active in the acting scene, occurring in well known movies such as Die Another Day and Pink Panther 2.

1. John Cleese’s family surname was actually Cheese, though only to be modified slightly to Cleese by the actor’s father Reginald Francis Cheese when he joined the army.

2. Cynthia Cleese was John Cleese’s first daughter born in 1971 by ex-wife American actress Connie Booth, whereas Camilla Cleese was John Cleese’s second daughter born in 1983 by ex-wife American actress Barbara Trentham.

3. Alyce Faye Eichelberger was John Cleese’s third wife, whom he married in 1992, divorced in 2008, and had no children with.

4. John Cleese was not only the tallest member of the Monty Python; he was the oldest as well. The second tallest of them all was the late Graham Chapman, standing around two inches shorter than the former.

5. John Cleese starred in the first two Harry Potter films (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) as Nearly Headless Nick alongside Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall.

6. He also starred alongside her son Toby Stephens in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day, the same year Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released.

7. John Cleese was voted second place among fifty of the greatest comedians ever in a UK poll in 2005, with two other members of the Monty Python included in it, Eric Idle at twenty-first place and Michael Palin thirtieth.

8. John Cleese in 2005 put up for auction on his website a portion of his colon removed surgically in consequence of diverticulitis. Proceeds of the auction were later purported to have been apportioned between the English actor himself and the surgeon responsible for the abdication of said bit of colon.

9. In 2008, John Cleese proposed to work as Obama’s speechwriter in the event that the latter succeeded in the Democratic Nomination.

10. John Cleese is father-in-law to Ed Solomon, American director of numerous movies namely Men in Black and Charlie’s Angels and husband to Cynthia Cleese, John Cleese’s first daughter.
