Mechanism of action
Sultamicillin restrains Beta-lactamases in penicillin opposing microorganisms and it works in opposition to receptive organisms throughout the phase of vigorous reproduction by restraining biosynthesis of cell wall mucopeptide.
The antibiotic is used for treating Urinary Tract infections, respiratory tract infections and Otitis media. It may also be administered for treating uncomplicated gonorrhea.
Sultamicillin may as well be used for treating other ailments not listed above.
Dosage and administration
Sultamicillin may as well be used with or without food but suggested to use it after meal to stay away from GI troubles.
For treating Urinary Tract infections, respiratory tract infections and Otitis media:
In case of adults: 375 to 750 mg to be used at regular intervals.
For children below 30 Kg: 25 to 50 mg per kilogram per day in 2 separated doses;
For children above 30 Kg: 375 to 750 mg to be used at regular intervals.
Adult: 2.25 g of Sultamicillin along with probenecid 1 g.
Patients allergic to any of the active components present in Sultamicillin.
- Carefulness ought to be observed in subjects with past accounts of newborns, during pregnancy & lactations.
- Routine test for organ system disorders during extended treatment. Examine kidney and liver functions recurrently while administering this drug.
- It might induce dizziness, do not operate a car or heavy machinery while using this drug.

Sultamicillin side effects
All drugs are prone to side effects but not all patients using Sultamicillin are subject to its adverse reactions. Common side effects include nausea, Diarrhea, dizziness, vomiting, pruritus, skin rashes, super infections, blood dyscrasias, dyspnoea. Consult a doctor in case any of these Sultamicillin adverse reactions become severe, frequent and problematic.
Stop using the drug and consult a doctor immediately in case of hypersensitivity. Symptoms include hives, rashes, and problem in breathing, swelling of the lips, face, throat, tongue or mouth.
Possibly Fatal: Anaphylaxis.
