My girlfriend wouldn't want me to have these.

@Chris Stonecipher. Before you give your girlfriend any weapon for self-protection you had better be certain of two things. First, you need to be sure that she knows how to use it without having to think about what she needs to do to use it. Second, you had better be sure that she will use it in a real life situation. If she fails in either of those categories. If she doesn't know the weapon so she can fire it accurately without thinking through the steps she needs to take to fire it, or if she hesitates to use it once she pulls it, most villains will take it away from her and use it on her. I'm a gun advocate, Steve, but not everyone has the ability to use one in a life or death situation. There is a world of difference between firing off rounds at a paper target on a pistol range and shooting another human being. I know. As an ex military police/security officer, I have been there and I have done that
As for caliber, I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a .38 caliber. With a .22 caliber, she could put all five rounds in a man and he could keep right on coming unless she was good enough to go for a head or heart shot.
Perhaps you would be better off considering buying her a Stun Gun instead. At least with a stun gun most men will go down no matter where she hits them and they are, as a rule, not fatal so she will not have to spend the rest of her life knowing that she took the life of another person. I said that they are usually not fatal because they may kill someone who has a heart condition and/or has a pacemaker.
I thought about buying one of these small guns for my girlfriend for her protection. Nicely written and voted up
