"Hot Tub Time Machine" Starring John Cusack Movie ReviewFitness Gear & Equipment
“Hot Tub Time Machine” is a hilarious movie if you are able to suspend your disbelief for John Cusack in a completely ridiculous situation and somehow still playing the same character. If you are up for a good laugh then check out this review of “Hot Tub Time Machine”.
Steve Pink directs “Hot Tub Time Machine” and does a good job moving the story along quickly after the opening twelve minutes of an attempt to build a storyline which really didn’t need to be done in a film of this caliber. There are enough solid laughs in “Hot Tub Time Machine”.
Performances by Robb Corddry and John Cusack carry the dimly thought out plot that varies in importance through the adventure of the four friends as they discover everything they loved and ultimately hated about the 1980’s. “Hot Tub Time Machine” brings a number of time machine locals that stay in play for the rest of the film including Lizzy Caplan, Crispin Glover, and Jake Rose.
The jokes in the movie are often crude and fit the sense of humor of the actors on screen. Clark Duke makes his major film debut in this film and is among the better actors in the film who does not have to take a role outside of his original character.
Nudity and drug use give this film a hard rating of “R” and is a typical raunchy comedy with unpredictably wild scenarios that stray in a few spots from the normal productions of the genre. There is enough heart in the desires of the characters to grow from their experiences to almost give this film some storyline merit.
Still the concept of 1980’s humor and clothing find themselves pushing their buttons again eventually. I found myself laughing more than I expected and I think this is key to enter the movie without wanting it to be great. There are enough good jokes and memorable humor to make this film worth it.
“Hot Tub Time Machine” is a post modern film that breaks the third wall about twenty minutes in when Craig Robinson looks directly into the camera after speaking the title of the movie. This is a fun movie to watch that is worth a look if you haven’t seen it for a few laughs if nothing else and some nostalgia for the better parts of the 1980’s that are worth remembering in this movie.
