As a manager, the importance of defining goals provides obvious need. Defining the goals of the new technology to be implemented requires examining of the company to locate where improvements provide benefit. Defining the goals also allows for a direct explanation of why installing this new system helps the company. This information comes in handy when presenting the implementation plan to upper management. After goals become established, conducting research determines the means to reach these goals.

Research provides the important information needed to determine methods of reaching goals. Effective plans require researching the cost of various new technology systems and how the cost impacts the company. The time and money saved by the new technology requires research, as well as, the amount of resources needed to implement the new technology. The future of the system to be implemented deserves consideration as well because technology that must be replaced often does not hold as much value as technology that supports the needs of the company for a long time. After all information is gathered and analyzed the next step requires deciding on a solution.

Deciding on a specific solution to utilize, when reaching for goals, determines the basis of the implementation plan. When a specific solution becomes determined the implementation plan can start getting designed. Designing the plan requires consideration of how, when, and where the plan becomes implemented. A specific solution answers these questions and provides the basic foundation for figuring out the many details of the implementation plan.

Creating a detailed plan provides the company with strategy and steps to install the new technology from beginning to finish. A detailed implementation plan provides the company with information on when to initiate the plan. The plan determines the training and other resources utilized. It provides specific details and step-by-step information on how the plan occurs. This saves time and money and provides a company with an outline to follow when implementing the plan.

Implementing the new technology requires following through with the plan as it was designed. First, employees should be made aware of the steps of the implementation plan for the new technology system. This will provide them with time to prepare themselves. Then the plan should be implemented according to the steps outlined in the detailed description of the plan. During implementation, monitoring the process provides feedback on the progress and success of the plan.

Monitoring the implementation provides all levels of management with necessary information. No matter how detailed a plan is when constructed, unexpected issues occur at times. Monitoring the implementation, allows for correction and adjustments to be made to the plan. It also allows the employees to provide feedback and show areas where the employees require extra assistance. Monitoring the plan makes the manager's job easier because conflicts become noticed before they get out of hand, and resolutions can be determined before the plan becomes derailed. Monitoring allows for evaluating which can save time currently and in the future when creating new plans and further implementing the new technology system.

Evaluating how the implementation went should occur during and after it occurs.This step provides the company with much needed information that helps in the future as well as today. Evaluation of the plan requires checking if specific goals have been met. It also allows for new strategies to be determined as well as poor strategies to be removed from the plan. When implementing new technology, evaluating results provides a basic structure for future plans, and it help lay the ground work for utilization of the new technology system.
