Overview of the Android applications meant for music

Choosing a good android application dedicated to music is not that easy, considering the wide variety that is available. Surely, the first factor is whether the user is willing to pay or not for an app. This is why the Android Market is valuable: it has around 275k apps (and counting), and many of them are free, meaning that there are quite a lot of free music players.

Despite being a free application, Winamp provides a lot of facilities. The user interface is eye-catching and the app offers an array of widgets and gesture support. On top of that, it can download and stream music for free.

This android application costs 3.49$ and unfortunately, it doesn’t have an equalizer and the music quality is not the best. On the other hand, it has themes which completely change the look and feel of the app. Besides this, the now-playing screen background changes automatically accordingly to the artist and album.

PowerAmp includes a comprehensive list of features, being one of the best music players. It has a nice, customizable interface with several themes available and widgets. Moreover, it also boasts an equalizer and it can edit track tags. If necessary, it can download album art. The downside is that it costs 4.9$, but it is well worth its money. Users can test it for free for 15 days.

Cubed (“3”, superscript)

Cubed is a unique music player, having a 3D interface which looks amazing and a huge home screen widget. It can download album art but, unfortunately, it lacks a tag editor. It is available for free in the Android Market.

MixZing has loads of options and features: equalizer, lock-screen widget, audio tag editor, and it downloads album art and suggests music. The interface is neat, but not really eye-candy. Nevertheless, it doesn’t fail to please its user. This android application is free to download from the Android Market, but an add-free version is also available for 5$.

PlayerPro is a 4.99$ app which can be tried based on a 5 day trial. This app has a marvellous interface and it is equipped with a great equalizer. It is definitely worth trying.

Given that the stock music player lacks a lot of features, many people pick another app for this purpose. It all comes down to deciding what is more important: functionality or design. There are apps which provide both, the key is to find the right one. Fortunately, there are more than enough options, keeping in mind that this list covers only a small number of android applications.
