Considered the most popular cat breed, Persian cats at times take center stage at cat shows or competition. In order to really appreciate them in cat shows, one has to fully understand the seven color categories these gentle cats can be entered. Below are interesting facts about Persian cats seven color categories in a cat show.
Solid Color Category
The whites, chocolates, creams, reds, blues, and lilacs comprise the solid color category. Except for the white ones, Persians cats under this category must have brilliant copper eyes. Whites cats may either have blue or copper eyes or in some cases, each eye may be a different color. The coat color must not show markings or shadings.
Silver and Golden Category
The shaded category includes shaded versions of all the solid colors, chinchillas, goldens, and cameos (white with red tips).Chinchilla is characterized by black tipping on its face, body, legs, and tail, while shaded has black coats on its back running down the sides. Goldens can take either a chinchilla or shaded pattern. Typically, goldens have warm cream tipped with black. Silvers and goldens usually have green eyes rimmed with patches of black.
Shaded and Smoke Category
The Smoked Persian pattern may include any of these colors; cream, cameo, blue, black, blue-cream smoke, and smoke tortoiseshell. Shaded cameos and Tortoiseshells sporting white undercoat with red spots are also included in this group. Persian cats having white undercoat marked with cream falls under the cream shell and shaded category. The shell and shaded tortoiseshells divisions includes Persians showing layers of black tipping with vivid patches of red tipped hairs. Persian cats with blue tipping mark with cream tipped hair fall under the shell and shaded blue-creams.
The Classic, Patch, Mackerel, and Ticked Tabby fall under this group. Colors range from blue, lilac, cream, chocolate, red, silver, and patched tabbies. Typically, entries have copper eyes. Classic tabbies show the distinguishable the bull’s eye markings on their bodies, while the mackerel pattern shows slim lines around the body. The patched tabby is characterized by patches of red and can follow either the mackerel or classic pattern.
The parti-color category comprises chocolate calicos, lilac calicos, blue calicos and white calicos with vivid patches of red and white. Persian cats with solid, shaded, tabby, smoke, shaded, or tortoiseshell colors are also included in this group. Entries must have copper to orange eyes color.
Tortoiseshell, including chocolate tortoiseshell, blue-cream tortoiseshell, lilac-cream tortoiseshell, and black cats with vivid patches of red across its body also fall in this division. All tortoiseshell typically have bright copper eyes. The blue-cream tortoiseshell is normally a solid blue Persian cat with patches of cream.
Calico & Bi-Color Category
This division includes the calicos, bi-colors, tabby and whites, and smoke and whites. Calicos can be distinguished by their white coats mark with vibrant tint of red and black. On the other hand, dilute calicos are characterized by patches of blue and cream. Lilac calicos sport white coat with shades of lilac and cream, while chocolate calicos have white coats as well with brilliant shades of chocolate and red. Persian cats entered in this cat show division must have a maximum of two spots of color on the body.
The Bi-color category includes chocolate, cream, red, blue, black, and lilac with white. It is an advantage for Persian cats entering in this division to have white in their muzzle and chest, undersides, legs and feet. Tabbies with white and smokes with flashes of white are entered in this division as well.
The newest division in a cat show, Himalayan covers chocolate point, blue point, lilac point, seal point, red point, lilac point and tortie point. To be eligible in this division, entries must have blue eyes to be eligible. This covers seal point, blue point, chocolate point, lilac point, red point, tortie point, and lynx point. Color is restricted to the facial mask and body extremities. Himalayan colors range from blue, chocolate, red, lilac, seal, blue-cream, blue lynx, chocolate lynx, chocolate-tortie, chocolate-tortie lynx, cream tortie, lilac-cream, red lynx, seal lynx, and lilac-cream lynx.
