Keep a Good Distance Away from the Computer Monitor

One of the best ways to avoid computer health hazards is keeping a good distance from the monitor of the computer. This is to avoid or reduce the intensity of radiation which directly hitting our eyes. The radiation from the computer could cause several vision problems especially if our eyes are focused in the monitor for long number of hours.

Keep the Monitor Properly Leveled with the Eyes

It is important to keep the eyes leveled with the top of the monitor to avoid computer health hazards particularly related to the neck. Most of the time, computer users suffer from neck pain after working in front of the computer for long hours. They suffer neck pain or stiff neck because of the unleveled position of the monitor to the eyes. It might be higher or lower to the eyes that the neck needs to move up or down.

What to do During a Break

Taking should actually be done about every half hour, or whenever you feel the need to get up and move around. To prevent eye damage, it can as simple as just walking outside and refocusing your eyes on something more distant. Look across the street, watch planes in the sky, and just get your eyes to refocus on something more distant. This has always helped me.

Other helpful tips for those that sit at a computer all day is to stretch. Get up and walk around and swing your arms as if you are an orchestra conductor. Move your wrists in circles, press your fingers together, and also lean against a wall with your legs behind you and stretch the legs and the hamstring muscles.

Stretch your neck by turning the left for a moment, look to the right for a moment, look up for a moment and then look downward by using your neck through all of these stretches.

Other stretches can include touching your toes, bend your knees and just touch your shoes. Remember this is not a workout, it is to get your body moving again, refocus your eyes and keep you from getting too stiff while sitting at a computer all day. It is also a nice break from staring at the computer screen.
