What is Kosher Jewish Sex - Traditional Jewish Laws of Sexual Intercourse

What is kosher sex. How do jews have sex. What are the Jewish laws about sex.

How do Jewish people have sex? I'm referring to the rituals involved not the act itself.

Sex is a woman's right in the Jewish religion, she can have it on demand as it were!

Sex is forbidden outside of marriage, but considered a mitzvah and a good thing within a marriage. Basically whatever goes on in the bedroom between a married couple, consenting adults, is kosher sex! It is something to be enjoyed. So where are all the restrictions and laws? It all comes down to ritual purity.

Within a 26 day cycle there are times when sex, and touching for that matter, is permitted and times when it is not. Here is a overview of Jewish sex laws.

5 days of menstrual cycle – at leastOn the day that a woman gets her period the couple stops having sex. In fact they are supposed to refrain from any physical contact. Orthodox couples have separate beds during this time.

This continues for no less than 5 days. If she stops bleeding before the 5 days are up she still waits 5 days, and if she continues to bleed after the 5 days she remains separate from her husband.

7 clean days – at least

After the blood has completely stopped she begins to count 7 clean day, there is still no contact between the husband and wife during that time. The wife checks herself for blood each day, making sure she is completely blood free. For the whole 12 days she is considered in "niddah".

Mikvah

After sundown on the 7th day the wife goes to the Mikvah – the ritual bath – here she cleans herself thoroughly, removes any jewelry or clothes, so that she is completely naked. She enters the ritual bath and submerges herself in the water several times. It can be 3 times or 7, depending on her cultural origins. While she does this a rabbanite, or balanit, a lady trained for this task, watches her, and listens while she says a short blessing. The mikvah gives her ritual spiritual purification. She emerges from the water, dries herself, dresses and goes home.

2 weeks of sex

This is the first evening that she can have kosher sex with her husband.

They continue to be intimate whenever they want to for approximately the next 14 days until her period starts again, and then the whole cycle repeats itself.

This arrangement leaves the couple with some alone time, during the days that sex is forbidden. It also means that for those 12 days of no physical contact they need to relate to each other on an emotional or cerebral level. And if one partner doesn't enjoy sex as much as the other they simply have to wait a while until the time of separation.

The time of separation also builds up a longing in the couple, so that each time they have sex after the wife returns from the mikvah it is a new beginning, a wedding night all over again. This keeps the relationship passionate.

Of course there are all kinds of rules for unforeseen situations, like if the woman suddenly has blood when she is not supposed to, or after birth when the separation period is longer, before the wedding night and at the end of the conversion process, but this gives you the overview or kosher Jewish sex.
