What does 1 3/4 baths mean ?

When you look at homes for sale, you always see bathrooms listed. What do the terms 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 baths mean.

Sam,

I believe it means there is a sink, a toilet, and a shower stall (not a full tub with shower).

I think Lorena is right. 1/2 bath usually means sink & toilet - usually like a small bathroom. In the homes I've had, the 1/2 bath is usually by the living room/family room area for guests to use when they visit. I seem them more commonly with 2 story homes as the other baths are upstairs are full baths for the bedrooms.

3/4 I believe is shower stall but no tub. I think it all depends on the listing agent as well. The last house I was in was technically 2 3/4 baths but they listed it as 3.

Sam, Erin and Lorena are correct. 1 3/4 means it's more than 1 1/2 and less than 2! It has a toilet and vanity (equaling a 1 1/2) PLUS a shower, but not a second bathtub. So it's not quite a full second bath but more than a toilet and sink. However, most Multiple Listing Services today have eliminated this hair-splitting by calling any bathroom that offers the ability to bathe (whether a shower or bathtub) -- in addition to the toilet and sink -- a "full bath."
