....."Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives."

This analogy describes how grains of sand flow through the hourglass, sometimes the grains get stuck, sometimes the grains flow smoothly, and sometimes if you feel that you just don't like the way things are moving through the hourglass, you can just turn that sucker around or shake it up a bit.

An analogy is a comparison of two thing that are seemingly dissimilar but actually do have traits in common. Often, these begin as similies or metaphors, but an analogy in paragraph form is extended so that you are in effect showing the various points of commonality between the wo things. To find something, consider things you may compare. However, be sure you know enough about both to be able to carry the comparison out. If you know nothing about high-wire acts, do not compare getting permission from your parents to stay overnight at a friend's without adult chaperones to walking a tightrope.

For example, one might compare preparing a seven course meal to conducting a military campaign. You then develop the paragraph by equating each part of the meal preparation to a corresponding part of a military campaign. For example, one step in meal preparation is ensuring you have all the necessary ingredients on hand so you can prepare the food. This corresponds to ensuring that you have all the men, armaments, and supplies ready for the impending battle:

I am not actually providing you with a sample paragraph because this seems like a school writing assignment. As such, you will not learn by getting someone else to write the paragraph for you.
