I use the stackables by Rubbermaid.  They are not that costly and come in great size options as well as stack together so the lids are not misplaced. After filling with left over dinner I can stack the pieces of a full meal together and they stay connected!!

A wonderful product in my opinion.

Several varieties of "generic" containers are available in the larger supermarkets. They are cheap, relatively safe, and air-tigh.

I use the Ziploc (or store-brand equivalent) containers--made to last for one or two uses and then toss, which makes them less expensive, but if you treat them carefully they last pretty well--and when I do send something home with somebody, I don't have angst about getting the container back.

The cheapest and the best containers usually tend to be the generic ones that you can buy from department or retail stores.

Cheap containers are not always the best for storing food for good health. I would suggest glass with lock n'lock lid. They can cost 8$. They are good and food does not react. They are microwaveable  too.
